SUSTAINABLE COFFEE SHOP COLLATERAL
Crop to Cup, Brooklyn, NY
Crop to Cup is a coffee company based in Brooklyn, NY and Chicago, IL that connects coffee farmers with trade opportunities internationally. They purchase directly from coffee farmers and community farm cooperatives in Uganda and Burundi and provide them with the tools to obtain economic returns appropriate to the specialty crops that they grow. Crop to Cup is a for-profit company that works to create sustainable supply chains for the benefit of both the farmers and consumers. Their website contains profiles and videos of the family farmers, so you can meet the people who grew, picked and processed your washed Arabica.
TYTHEdesign worked with Crop to Cup to develop collateral that is complementary to the mission of the company. We sought to represent their dedicated belief in the importance of recognizing not only where consumer products such as coffee come from, but also the vision that through this awareness businesses and consumers can improve the environmental and social impacts of production. TYTHEdesign created print collateral including menus and postcards, and worked with the Crop to Cup staff to develop branding language that can be incorporated across store locations as the company grows, Like our other print projects, TYTHEdesign took advantage of opportunities to make the product more sustainable by designing without bleeds and in standard paper sizes for minimum paper waste.
Over the summer of 2011, TYTHEdesign again welcomed Crop to Cup as a returning client, who was looking to extend their print collateral and messaging surrounding their in-depth coffee knowledge, as well as address the spatial arrangement of their cafe and store. Crop to Cup sells in their store and on their website a number of home-brew options, a few of which may be unusual to the typical consumer. We worked within the company’s existing branding and visual identity to create a series of instructional “brew cards” that not only communicate the information effectively, but will also be useful for the company in many different contexts. In keeping with TYTHEdesign’s and Crop to Cup’s notion of ecofrendliness, the cards were designed with reduced ink usage and minimal paper waste when printed professionally or on an office printer. Additionally, TYTHEdesign worked directly with the client to arrange the multi-purpose space into a flexible yet organized structure in which to educate consumers about the Crop to Cup story, and of course the coffee itself.
